New Jersey Home Inspections Provides Comprehensive Inspection of Operational Components – Plumbing System

Because most of a home’s plumbing system is hidden within walls, a qualified home inspector must rely on the visible components to adequately report on a home’s plumbing system. The plumbing system is one of the operational components that also include the electrical system, as well as the heating and cooling system.

Municipal Water Source

Many homes in suburban and urban areas receive their water supply from a municipal source. Part of a home inspection is recognizing which source supplies water to a residence. Once that is done, the home inspector will note the location of the main water shut-off, the water meter, and the location, type, and general condition of the hot water heater. In some cases a home inspector can estimate the age of a hot water heater and comment on its functionality.

All visible plumbing materials are noted on the inspection report. A home inspector will make comments on age and condition of materials and may recommend a plumber inspect further, or suggest that repairs be made.
